About
A little about me
Biography
I am a socially engaged artist born in Mexicali, Baja California and currently based in New York City. I received my degree in Visual Arts and Sociology from the University of California San Diego.
Being Lesbian and a Mexican immigrant, I delve into my own personal narrative to connect with other intersectional people while educating non-identifying audiences. In doing so, my practice loudly tells of my bicultural upbringing.
I am currently developing research-driven projects that use storytelling as a tool for inquiry and connection, exploring new mediums and ways of further refining my practice to contribute to New York’s grassroots movements, radical advocacy, and collective resistance. Through my work, I seek to challenge systems of oppression, amplify marginalized voices, and participate in movements for liberation, equity, and cultural preservation, with a lens that speaks to LGBTQIA+ communities, POC and immigrant pasts, presents, and futures.
About my process
My Work
I am an interdisciplinary artist, stretching the limits of the material to uncover their storytelling capabilities. My works tackle concepts of immigration, race, food justice, education, sexuality, land stewardship, and seed sovereignty. My practice is heavily researched while also deeply involving personal narrative in memories from my youth and present day to tell a concentrated story that resonates with larger shared experiences that are visible amongst diverse communities.
With academic roots in sociology, I use research combining physical immersion, literary and first hand interviews ensuring all stories, both personal and externally observed are justly told and represented with respect and love.
